a dream yoga practice for inner wisdom
December 1st, 2008 by gef Posted in ascent, web exclusive
Here is a concise 8-point method to work with and learn from your dreams, excerpted from Swami Radha’s Realities of the Dreaming Mind. 1) Dream Record: Write your dream quickly and honestly. 2) Signature: Put a date on it and your signature underneath. 3) Commentary: Add any detail you may have missed. Describe your feelings. 4) Initial interpretation: What is your immediate impression of the dream’s meaning? 5) Conscious concerns: Briefly note events that could have led to the dream. 6) Key words/Symbols: Select the main words from the dream and write down associations and meanings to you. 7) Interpretation: See how the symbolic meanings fit together to give messages on several levels. Have you reflected on your dreams, using Swami Radha’s method? What have you learned from your dreaming mind? Post your thoughts and experiences in our comments section below! “The language of dreams arises from our individual unconscious. Other people can only interpret our dream as if it were theirs. Learning our own forgotten language, we start to become actively involved in our unconscious life. Dreams can keep us going and keep us nourished. Our inherent self-interest can be used in a most beneficial way - to get to know ourselves.” — Swami Radha
Application: Apply the dream’s message to your life.

a dance of gratitude from swami radhakrishnananda

In ascent’s Memory issue (#40, winter 2008), Swami Radhakrishnananda writes about dancing as a way to heal from Deep Brain Stimulation surgery (read i am dancing here). She reflects further on her experience and shares an inspired dance… In June 2008, I had brain surgery (Deep Brain Stimulation) and it turned out to be a very special experience. I was aware of and comforted by a wave of light from Yasodhara Ashram and the Radha Yoga Center in Spokane. To express my gratitude for the support, I turned to a prayer dance. As I danced, I remembered Swami Radha, my teacher, saying do the movements over and over again – 150 times with great devotion until you have the experience. I took the part of the prayer dance where the devotee offers the flowers and sees that God is everywhere. She asks, ‘Please accept my offering.’ The practice opened up and led me to unfolding like a flower, then picking the flowers and offering them. The flowers are a symbol of my finer feelings and help me cultivate greater sensitivity. The dance became a healing practice. So please join me in doing the mudras and offering this dance of gratitude. Download Click on the screen to watch the video. If you enjoyed this post, make sure you subscribe to my RSS feed!
